Mumbai Indians won the IPL finals yesterday. It is their third IPL victory. This was the most thrilling victory for Mumbai Indians as they have scored the lowest of this IPL.
They snatched the match from Pune, last evening. Mumbai Indians chose to bat first and were able to set a target of only 130 for Pune. However, due to some great bowling and fielding efforts they were successful in restricting Pune to 128.
Initially when Mumbai Indians started batting, they struggled really hard to get the runs on the board. They were able to score only 41 runs by the end of 7 overs. They ended up by scoring the lowest of this season. They scored 129 of 20 overs. It was only Krunal Pandya, who could reach up to 47. There was no other player who can survive the Pune’s bowling attack. Pune captain Steve Smith requested his bowlers to stick to basics and not to try for anything extra ordinary. However, it was due to some clever bowling changes by Steve Smith that paid off.
Mumbai Indians on the other hand, really struggled to survive and respond to the Pune’s bowling. Parthiv Patel, who is in great form and opens for Mumbai Indians, was quickly showed the way to dressing room,. He was not able play his pull shot and as a result gave a simple catch to Shardul Thakur. And, this was the beginning of collapse. There was one more wicket down after just three balls. This time it was Lendl Simmons. The player who came after these two, tried to hold for some time. But as soon as they started to go for bigger shots they also lost their wickets.
However, even after giving such a small target, Mumbai Indians were very confident with their deadly bowling line up. Ajinkya Rahane was lucky as his catch was dropped by Krunal. He scored 44 after that incident. Krunal was in a great regret. But he had faith in his team’s deadly fast bowlers. Rahane was made to see the dressing room soon. And, after that no one could play to that extent. The Pune was really struggling hard. Now they needed 11 in the last over. The great Mithcell Johnson was the bowler at other end.
Tiwary was to face the first ball of last over. He succeeded in hitting a boundary on the first ball. Mithcell didn’t loose his cool, instead used his experience. He was able to get back to back wickets of Tiwary and Smith. And, in next three, he gave only five runs. Thus Rohit Sharma, the captain of Mumbai Indians got his third IPL victory.
This match was the most thrilling of all the matches in this season of IPL. Congratulations Mumbai Indians for much deserved victory.
