Chhattisgarh: 24 CRPF jawans killed in encounter with Maoists in Sukma district

On Monday, there was a deadly Maoist attack that killed 25 CRPF personnel and 6 others were seriously wounded. This incident took place in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

Maoist attacked at around 12:25 PM. The ambush took place between Burkapal-Chintagufa areas. This region is worst affected by Maoist violence. At least 25 Jawans are killed and 6 have got critical injuries. They are being evacuated safer place and all the efforts are made to treat them in best possible way. The Jawans from 74th Battalion of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) were deployed in this area. They were here for anti-Maoist operations.

The CRPF Jawans were patrolling over the under construction road in Burkapal (it is a place near Chintagufa). And, suddenly they experienced an indiscriminate firing from Maoists. As per the information from SP, Sukma, there were around 90 CRPF jawans patrolling that area when this incident took place.

We have also got some information from CRPF Constable Sher Mohammed regarding the attack. As per Mohammed, the naxalities traced the location of Jawans through the villagers. And, after that, almost 300 naxalities attacked the battalion. Mohammed was able to shoot four of them.

Reinforcement force from nearest CRPF camp quickly rushed to the spot and help to move injured Jawans to a safer place. Injured Jawans were airlifted and moved to Raipur. Their further treatment is going on in Raipur.

Maoists not only attacked and killed our jawans but also looted all the weapons, ammunition and wireless that belonged to the Jawans.

Mr. Raman Singh (C.M. Chhattisgarh), rushed to Raipur and has cancelled all his meetings in Delhi. Mr. Singh has called an emergency meeting.
