A well laid out & thoughtfully planned response to the Pakistani attack at Pulwama
India has hit back on Pakistan strongly for the Pulwama Terror Attack, which resulted in the grave loss of 40 CRPF personals. Today, at 3:30 a.m the Indian Air Force (IAF) crossed the LOC (Line of control) to attack Balakot. The Balakot sector is infamous for the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) camps that houses several terrorists including the chief of JeM, Massod Azar. The pre-dawn strike by 12 Mirage 2000 aircraft dropped 1,000kg bombs on the terrorist camps. The Mirage 2000 armed with several features including the laser-guided bombs destroyed the camps across LoC in response to the Pulwama attacks. The attack headed by Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa is the powerful retaliatory response to the suicide bombing.
Why The Attack?
On February 14th when the world was enjoying Valentine’s Day, a convoy of vehicles carrying CRPF personals was attacked by the suicide bomber, Adil Ahmad Dar, a Kashmiri local who was active in the Pakistani militant group, Jaish-e-Mohammad. The surgical airstrike destroyed several terrorist launch pads including the ones in Muzaffarabad, Chakothi, and Balakot. The airstrike also destroyed several JeM control rooms. After the Pulwama terror attack, the Indian armed forces were given the full freedom to respond to the attack.
Weapons Used In The Attack
Apart from using Mirage 2000, the fighter jet with multirole capability, Indian Airforce used six other weapons for the surgical airstrike 2.0.
- GBU-12, the laser-guided bomb built in America, which comes with the precision guidance bomb kit.
- The French built missile, Matra magic that acts as the close combat missile to intercept the possible air force response during the attack by the Pakistan air force.
- The laser designator, litening pod, which also acts as the targeting pod to acquire the target and precision bomb guidance.
- The Netra warning jet (from Bhatinda) to ensure command and control from the air.
- Flight refueling aircraft, Ilyushin-78m for longer durability of the fighter jets.
- Heron drone for real-time surveillance along the LoC (line of control)
The entire operation lasted for about twenty minutes, which includes the time takes by the fighter jets to take off and return to the base. Indian Airforce targeted the strike at Balakot, which is known as the fertile breeding ground of terror activities first confirmation of the attack came from Major General Asif Ghafoor, the Pakistan army spokesperson. He tweeted several messages indicating the intrusion of Indian Airforce jets across the line of control.
India confirmed the attack at 11:30 a.m. as Foreign Secretary, Vijay Gokhale held a press conference to provide information on the attack. According to Vijay Gokhale, JeM was planning for more attacks on various Indian cities. The suicide terror attacks planned by Fidayeen jihadis was confirmed by several credible intelligence sources. During the briefing, the foreign secretary also confirmed the death of Maulana Yusuf Azhar also known as Ustad Ghauri (brother-in-law of Masood Azar, JeM chief).
Today, every Indian feels relieved and delighted with the surgical airstrike on Pakistan. The Pulwama attacks left every citizen of the country in pain and anguish. The Indian Air Force with its meticulous operation has provided a befitting reply to the heinous suicide bombing.
